Pope John Paul II
Karol Wojtyla was elected Pope the 16th October 1978, with Polish origin he was the first non –Italian Pope after 455 years (since 1523). Coming from the Est side communist Poland, where to be a priest was very much like as to be a fighter on the front lines , Karol Wojtyla immediately aroused sympathy and admiration by the Christian and non Christian people, as he was an open minded and unconventional person.
He was a worker and a travelling Pope, for this reason he received these two “nominations” for his anusual behavior as a Pope. He was the first Pope to enter a synagogue and a mosque, the first Pope to attend a rock concert and a football game.
He used to pronounce these words: ”Totus Tuus sum, Maria et omnia mea tua sunt” (I am completely yours and everything is mine is yours), this states his complete devotion to Our Lady.
