THE LAST SUPPER

“The Last Supper” is Leonardo biggest painting (the dimensions are 8,8 X 4,40mt). It represents The Last Supper in which Jesus says, by referring to Judas, “One of you will betray me”.

It is located in the convent just near the Church of “Santa Maria delle Grazie” in Milan, a place that, in the beginning, was a refectory.

To make this extraordinary masterpiece in between 1494 and 1497, Leonardo used tempera and oil colors. Unfortunately, because of this technique and the refectory humidity, the painting began to deteriorate from the start.

Despite the impressive restoration completed in 1999, more than a 50% of the painting has been lost and, in the remaining part the colors are in any case ruined.
